Bates and Miller Advance into Finals to Highlight Men's Track & Field

LINCOLN, Neb. (May 10, 2024) - Ashton Bates secured a spot into Saturday's finals in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes while Kyle Miller did the same in the 800-meter run to highlight the first full day of competition at the American Rivers Conference Championships for the Buena Vista University men's outdoor track and field day.

Bates qualified seventh into the 100-meter finals with a time of 10.64 seconds while setting a new personal best clocking of 21.63 in the 200-meter dash to qualify fifth. His 100-meter time is also the second fastest mark in program history, trailing only Hall of Famer Eric Bertelsen's 10.51 set in 2009

Miller won his heat in the 800-meter run and takes the second-fastest qualifying time into finals after posting a 1:52.01. Dylan Austad's time of 33:51.56 in the 10k was the fourth fastest in program history, as he finished 15th overall.

In the field events, Easton Hayes secured a big personal best leap in the long jump at 6.56m and moved into the top-10 all-time in program history. David Crow set a personal best in both the shot and discus while placing 15th and 12th overall.

Bates is scheduled to run his 100m finals race at 3 p.m. and the 200m finals at 3:50 p.m. Miller will compete in the 800m finals at 3:15 p.m.

Saturday's final day of action will begin with the remaining field events at 10 a.m. with the first running event slated to get underway at 1:30 p.m.
