Softball Edged Twice by Rams in Non-Conference DH

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa (Mar. 30, 2024) - The Buena Vista softball team wrapped up its weekend on Saturday afternoon with a pair of non-conference games at Cornell College, but the Beavers were edged in both contest by the Rams, losing the opener 6-5 and dropping the second, 7-3.

Cornell got on the board first in game one with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second off a 2-run single. BVU came right back in the third and scored all five of its runs to take a 5-2 lead. The first run crossed on an error by the Rams before a bases loaded walk by Geneva Galler tied things at 2-2. Amanda Franke capped the scoring with a three-run double that accounted for one of her two hits in the game.

The Rams would go on to score single runs in their half of the third, fourth fifth to pull even at 5-5, and then came through with the walk-off RBI single in the seventh. Cornell edged BVU in hits, 12-7.

Franke was the only Beaver to record a multi-hit game and had the only extra-base hit. The top four players in the line-up all tallied one hit, including Paige Druskis and Nattie Murillo, who also scored one run each. Keirsten Trayte got the start and pitched three innings, allowing three runs and six hits. Grace Fuhrman pitched the next three and was tagged for two runs and five hits.
