Trio of Beavers Set PR's during Last Chance Qualifier

WAVERLY, Iowa (Mar. 2, 2024) - The Buena Vista University men's indoor track and field team sent a trio of individuals to compete at the Lance Chance Qualifying Meet hosted by Wartburg College on Friday-Saturday, and each one set a new personal best mark in the process.

Senior Zackary Huffman qualified into the finals of the 60-meter hurdles in a new personal best time of 8.68 seconds. Later in the finals, he came up just short of that time after crossing the line in 8.75, and settled for seventh overall.

Meanwhile, in the pole vault, the freshmen duo of Nick Walch and Devon Schultz each set new personal bests while both cleared 4.43 meters (14-6.25). Walch surpasses his previous best of 4.40 meters while Schultz's best height coming in was 4.30 meters. The tandem is now within a foot of reaching the program's all-time mark of 15-6 set by Randy Lewis back in 1989.

The event concluded the indoor season for the three individuals. The program now awaits the official release on Sunday evening with senior Kyle Miller expected to be among the field of the top-20 marks selected to compete at the NCAA DIII Indoor Championships in the 800-meter run.
