Schultz & Jeanisse Claim Titles at Darren Young Invite

GRINNELL, Iowa (Feb. 10, 2024) - The Buena Vista men's indoor track & field team captured a pair of individual titles on Saturday while placing fifth overall as a team during the Darren Young Invitation, hosted by Grinnell College.

Freshman Devon Schultz captured his second title by winning the pole vault at 4.25 meters. Fellow freshman Zach Walch also cleared the same height but settled for third. Junior John Jeanisse captured the title in the 400-meter dash in 51.78 seconds.

In the sprints, sophomore Ashton Bates was third in both the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes. His time of 7.00 seconds in the 60-meters was a new personal best. Jeanisse was right behind Bates at 7.30 seconds and took eighth.

Junior Easton Hayes scored points for the Beavers in the long jump with his eighth-place effort at 6.21 meters. Sophomore Abraham Christensen was again runner-up in the shot put with his heave of 14.73 meters while David Crow placed sixth with a season-best mark of 12.49 meters. The duo also placed fifth and seventh, respectively, in the weight throw with Crow again posting a season-best throw of 13.80 meters.

Senior Isaiah Thomas put in a top-5 finish in the triple jump with a leap of 12.09 meters.

Buena Vista finished with 61 points and only eight points behind Wartburg which took fourth. The Beavers host the NJCAA Regional Meet on Feb. 16-17 and will have individuals compete as non-scoring competitors.
