MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Dec. 14, 2024) - Buena Vista freshman
Tyme Boettcher matched a career-high with 20 points while freshman
Bradi Krager and junior Madalyn Hilgendorf followed with 14 points apiece, as the Beavers went on the road to earn a 70-56 non-conference victory over North Central (MN) on Saturday afternoon.
Boettcher drained a career-high four three-point buckets to go along with seven rebounds and four steals. Krager was 1-of-2 from downtown and made a team-high five free-throws as Hilgendorf went 6-of-8 from the field. The trio combined to shoot 17-of-31 from the floor while the rest of the team combined to make just seven field goals.
BVU went 8-of-20 from long range while the Rams were 5-of-21.
Buena Vista scored the first eight points of the game before the Rams settled in and slowly chipped away at that deficit to take their first and only lead of the contest at 21-20 midway through the second quarter. Senior
McKenna Cone's layup gave the Beavers the lead back at 22-21, and that sparked a 13-3 run that was capped by a Boettcher three-pointer as the first half expired.
Hilgendorf's layup with just over two minutes remaining in the third quarter gave the Beavers their largest lead at 54-34 before the Rams trimmed the cushion down to 54-39 heading to the fourth. That momentum continued earlier into the final frame for North Central as it clawed back as close as nine at 65-56 with 3:06 to play. From there, the Beavers got a free-throw from junior
Danika Demers and a final layup from Hilgendorf that lifted the lead back up to 12 at 68-56 before Hilgendorf capped the scoring inside the final 15 seconds with a pair of free-throws.
North Central (0-9) shot 33.3 percent from the field and was led in scoring by Kaitlyn VanderPloeg's 14 points. The Rams held a 37-30 advantage on the glass while both teams combined for 52 turnovers that led to 44 combined points.
Buena Vista improves to 5-5 on the year and is off until hosting St. Catherine's on Dec. 30 at 2 p.m.
