Kohawks Hold off Beavers 35-13

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Nov. 2, 2024) - The Buena Vista University football team returned home on Saturday to host Coe College, but it was the Kohawks scoring three straight second half touchdowns which aided them during a 35-13 victory over the Beavers.

Despite being held to only one first down and 30 total yards of offense in the first half, the Beavers trailed only 14-0 at the half. The team received the second half kickoff and marched down the field with a 13-play drive that used 7:49 off the clock and ended with an eight-yard touchdown pass over the middle of the field to Colton Brant. Quarterback Zach Herrera was 4-of-5 through the air on the drive for 50 yards as BVU cut the deficit to 14-6 after the PAT was missed.

The Kohawks responded right back with a touchdown drive of their own ending in a four-yard touchdown run three minutes later to push the advantage back to two scores at 21-7. The Beavers were forced to punt the ball back to Coe on the ensuing drive with under three minutes to play in the quarter, and then on the first play of the fourth quarter, the Kohawks hooked up for a 32-yard touchdown pass to make it 28-7.

Coe would get the ball right back deep into BVU territory after the Beavers fumbled on the third play from scrimmage on the ensuing drive. The Kohawks used that turnover to break the game open as it resulted in a one-yard touchdown run with 10:28 remaining and a 35-6 cushion.
