STORM LAKE, Iowa (Nov. 19, 2024) - The Buena Vista University women's basketball team returned home on Tuesday night to host Macalester College in a non-conference contest inside Siebens Fieldhouse, and it was a hot shooting start by the Scots which helped lift them to a 73-58 victory over the Beavers.
Freshman Bradi Krager was the lone player to score in double figures for Buena Vista, scoring 14 points on the strength of a career-high three made three-point shots. Fellow freshman Tyme Boettcher followed with nine points, nine rebounds, four assists and a career-high four steals. Senior McKenna Cone chipped in with eight points and four boards.
Macalester came out strong by making 15 of its first 21 shots from the field (71 percent) and led 25-15 after the first quarter and 42-29 at the half. BVU shot 40 percent in the opening half but struggled to slow down Macalester which made nine more field goals over the first 20 minutes.
The Scots then came out of the locker room and scored four quick points to begin the second half before pushing the margin up to 20 midway through. Macalester built its largest lead at 70-44 midway through the fourth quarter. BVU chipped away at the lead down the stretch but it was too-little-too-late.
Buena Vista was held to just 3-of-14 shooting in the third quarter (21.4 percent) while shooting nearly 40 percent combined over the other three. The two teams combined to shoot 31 total free-throws in the contest with BVU sinking 11 and the Scots making 10.
