SCOUTING THE KOHAWKS

The Kohawks are coming off of a tough loss, dropping their first game of the season to against No. 12 Wartburg, 14-7, last week. They are currently 5-1 in conference play.

Starting quarterback Clay Krousie leads the Kohawks offensively, along with running back Trenton Barnes. Through their eight games this season, Krousie has completed 65 percent of his pass attempts for 1,432 yards. He's thrown for 14 passing TD’s and has only thrown four interceptions. Barnes has been good on the ground, averaging 114.63 rushing yards per game with 9 rushing TDs. Receiver Jeron Senters has been Krouise's top target through the air, averaging 89.13 receiving yards a game and also bringing in 8 receiving TDs. The Kohawks are looking to establish their ground game on Saturday with multiple backs averaging 30+ yards a game.

Fifth-year linebacker Sam Shaw has been the anchor for the Kohawk defense, posting 52 tackles this year with 7.5 TFLs. Right behind him is another fifth-year linebacker, Ben Adelsberger, with 43 total tackles and 3.5 TFLs. Alex Aitchison has been a major contributor as well, adding 12 TFLs and 6 sacks.  The unit as a whole has posted 10 Interceptions, 19 Sacks and 60 TFLs and 17 QBHs.

Bradley Luke has punted 30 times so far for 1,048 yards, averaging 34.93 yards per punt, with his long of 62, putting six inside the 20. Julian Garcia-Ayala has attempted seven field goals this season, converting four of them, with a long of 39 yards.

ABOUT THE BEAVERS

BVU is at home hosting this weekend against the Kohawks for its American Rivers Conference game. The Beavers are coming off a hard loss against Simpson where their comeback hopes ultimately fell short.

The Beavers are looking to keep that fire that they had in the second half of the game against Simpson and capitalize off the connection Zach Herrea and Blaine Peebles had all day. Herrea threw for a season-high of 324 yards through the air along with 2 passing TDs. Peebles is also coming off a career day with 195 receiving yards with 2 receiving TDs and 12 receptions making his way to 3rd on most receptions in a game in school history. Herrera has completed almost 60 percent of his pass attempts for a combined 1,213 yards and seven touchdowns.  Peebles, being one of his top targets, has caught 37 passes for 479 yards and six scores.

On the ground, senior Eman Alaniz is still the work horse getting the majority of the touches with 103 carries on the season, averaging 3.2 yards per carry and has rushed for 328 yards and four scores. Meven Obregon has the team's longest run from scrimmage this season at 52 yards on just his second carry of the year. That scamper resulted in the team's first touchdown of the game against Wisconsin Lutheran.

Defensively, junior linebacker Troy Reynolds has helped lead the way with 61 total tackles, including 30 solo stops and 2.0 TFLs and a INT. Following is senior Austin Smith with 49 tackles and a INT, as well as defensive lineman Keaton Bindel with 32 tackles, including 2.0 sacks. Also, last week Nick Moorshead posted a career game with 16 total tackles and a forced fumble. As a unit, the Beavers have 21 TFL's overall and three sacks so far. Still looking to get off the field on third downs consistently, opponents are converting nearly 50 percent of the time on third down (36-of-76).

Matthew Beisswenger has a team-leading seven pass breakups and has also gotten the job down with his leg. Through eight games, he has 38 punt attempts for a total of 1,263 yards total and an avg. of 33.24 yards per attempt. 11 of those have been fair caught with his long to this point in the year going for 57 yards, with eight being inside the 20. He's also averaging 53.9 yards per kickoff attempt and has made 3-of-5 field goal attempts.
