Men's Soccer Drops Non-Conference Match to Pioneers

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Oct. 19, 2024) - The Buena Vista University men's soccer team remained at home to host Grinnell College in a non-conference match but the Beavers couldn't overcome a fast start by the Pioneers during a 7-0 loss.

Grinnell broke the scoreless tie with the first goal during the 10' before adding two more goals over the next five minutes to build a 3-0 advantage. The Pioneers, who outshot the Beavers 10-1 in the opening half, later added two more goals to take a 5-0 cushion into the half.

BVU buckled down a bit more defensively over the final 45 minutes, holding Grinnell to only five shots in the second half, but unfortunately two of them found the back of the net, including the final one inside the final five minutes.

Dylan Maddux and Samuel Gojjam led the Pioneers (5-4-5) with three shots apiece with Maddux registering three goals and an assist and Gojjam adding two goals.

Jeremiah Rediske and Ben Jackson tallied the only two shots for the Beavers with Jackson's coming on target.

Zachary Sigler got the start in-goal for BVU and was relieved shortly after Grinnell went up 3-0. Cody Fuller played the next 58 minutes before he was injured and gave way to Isaiah Thomas for the remainder of the way.

Buena Vista falls to 9-8 overall and plays host to Nebraska Wesleyan on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 7:30 p.m.
