LINCOLN, Neb. (Jan. 20, 2024) - The Buena Vista men's indoor track and field team got its 2024 indoor campaign underway on Friday afternoon at the Prairie Wolf invitational, hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan University, and the Beavers ended the day with multiple top-10 finishes.
Senior Kyle Miller highlighted the day for BVU with a fifth-place effort in the 800-meter run. He crossed the line in 1:54.56 and was only 1.4 seconds off a school record. That mark is currently ranked 13th in DIII this season and sits fourth in the American Rivers Conference.
Sophomore Ashton Bates qualified into the 60-meter dash finals and would place eighth in a time of 7.03 seconds. His qualifying time of 7.00 is second-best in the A-R-C this season and 0.07 from a school record.
The Beavers had a pair of top-10 finishers in the 3000m run. Junior Kaden Sadler was seventh and sophomore Dylan Austad took eighth. Sadler's time of 9:36.34 was a new personal best.
In the pole vault, freshmen Devon Schultz and Nick Walch took fourth and fifth, respectively. Schultz cleared 4.00 meters (13' 1.5") and is ranked third in the A-R-C. Walch was close behind at 3.85 meters and is currently ranked sixth in the A-R-C.
The 4x400 meter relay team of John Jeanisse, Ashton Bates, Kyle Miller and Zack Huffman came in fifth overall in a time of 3:34.56. That time is currently ranked seventh in the A-R-C.
Buena Vista is set to return to action on Jan. 25-26 at the Central College Multi-Meet in Pella before hosting the annual Dennis Young Alumni Classic on Jan. 27 inside of the Lamberti Recreation Center.
