ROCHESTER, N.Y. (May 26, 2023) -
Becca Simpson was back in action this afternoon at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships to compete in the shot put, and she would push through for a fifth-place national finish and earn All-American honors in the event for the second straight year.
Simpson made her way into the finals on her final attempt, going from 11th to fourth after a school-record heave of 14.39m (47-2.5). That breaks the mark of 46-10 that she previously reached earlier this season at the USD Early Bird after setting the mark last season. She maintained that position until the second attempt of the finals where she was overtaken and she dipped down one spot into fifth. It is three spots higher than she placed a year ago after taking eighth.
She will now close out her stand-out collegiate career on Saturday morning when she takes part in the hammer throw beginning at 9 a.m. (CT).
