STORM LAKE, Iowa - The BVU Beavers Rainbow Six and Smash squads opened up their playoffs last night. Rainbow Six used a comeback effort against York College of Pennsylvania Spartans to win 2-1 (5-7, 7-4, 7-5) advancing to the semifinals where they will take on #1 Averett next Tuesday, April 25. The Smash squad took on #1 seed St. Ambrose falling 12-7, 12-7 and will take on Carroll Orange in the elimination round of the bracket play.
The two teams opened up on Villa where the Beavers played very well to start out. BVU won five of the first seven rounds taking the 5-2 lead but the Spartans regrouped winning the next five round claiming the victory on Villa 7-5.
Seth Gallardo ended with 10 kills while
Alex Hartman had eight.
The second map was Chalet. The Beavers and the Spartans went back and forth before BVU claimed the final two round picking up the 7-4 victory. Gallardo finished with 12 kills while
Dylan Anderson finished with 10. The final map was Club House and it was a back and forth battle. The Beavers came out firiing once again opening up a 5-2 lead. The Spartans came back cutting the lead to 5-4 before the Beavers finished it off winning two of the final three rounds claiming victory. Gallardo finished with 18 kills while Nathan Reusch was right behind him with 10. The Beavers improved their record to 6-4.
BVU and Averett played in week eight where BVU fell 2-1 (6-8, 7-3, 7-2). Averett is 10-0 on the season and have won 20 maps to just two map losses.
Smash took on St. Ambrose and gave a great effort. BVU started strong eliminating their first opponent 3-1. St. Ambrose then played a Ness who took seven stocks off the Beavers eliminating two BVU players and taking two rounds off their third player. The third player for St. Ambrose played Zelda and took the final four stocks off the Beavers while only loosing one of their stocks.
In game two BVU started with Samus who fell to the Bayonetta 3-1. BVUs next player was Aegis who took two stocks off the Bayonetta to eliminate them and force St. Ambrose into their second player. Zelda took four stocks off the Beavers Hero and Mewtwo player before Byleth eliminated Mewtwo and the Beavers.
