PREVIEW: Baseball Travels to Central; Hosts 3-Game Series with Luther

Storm Lake, Iowa (April 17, 2023) The Buena Vista baseball team will play another four conference games this week as it travels to Central College on Tuesday for the last regular season road game, and then will return home this weekend for a three-game set with Luther College.

About Central College
The Dutch took a break form conference play this last weekend and traveled up to Minnesota to play Gustavus Adolphus where they dropped both games of a doubleheader. They return to conference play this Tuesday against the Beavers. Offensively as a team, they are hitting .292 with 254 hits and 21 homeruns on the year. Leading the charge is junior Colton DeRocher who is hitting .387 on the year with seven home runs and 34 runs batted in. Another key piece to the offense is sophomore Chase Martin who is hitting a respectable .362 with 25 hits on the year. On the other side of the ball, the pitching staff holds an 8.20 ERA. The staff is led by senior pitcher Declan O'Hare who has a 5.93 ERA in 30.1 innings pitched and a team-leading 33 strikeouts. Freshman pitcher Chance Dreyer has also contributed in a big way as he has pitched 29.2 innings with a 6.98 ERA.

About Luther College  
The Norse, this last weekend, traveled to Dubuque to take on the University of Dubuque and dropped two of the three games to the Spartans. Two of the three games in the series were one-run ball games. Luther will play Coe during the midweek matchup before heading to Storm Lake to take on the Beavers. Offensively as a team, they are hitting .290 with 292 hits and 65 doubles on the year. The offensive attack is led by senior Aiden Michna who is hitting .398 with 35 hits and 13 doubles on the year. Also having a positive impact on the offensive side is senior Noah Sebben who is hitting .354 with 40 hits. The pitching staff holds a 4.71 ERA on the year and is led by freshman Nolan Klocke who has an impressive 3-0 record with a 1.56 ERA and a team-leading 46 strikeouts. Another stand out pitcher for the Norse is senior Harry Blum who holds a respectable 2.00 ERA and a 5-2 record.

About the Beavers
The Beavers this last weekend swept Coe College in a three-game set as they continue their momentum heading into the home stretch of the conference schedule. Riding a current nine-game win streak, they will look to continue their winning ways this week with four more games. Offensively as a team, they are hitting an impressive .355 on the year thus far with 387 hits, and 23 home runs. The senior Mathewson twins have been leading the offensive attack for the Beavers, as Jordan is hitting .441 with 56 hits, and Caden is hitting .419 with 36 hits. All the Beavers in the starting nine are hitting above .300. The pitching staff holds a 4.82 ERA. They are led by sophomore, Morgan Smith who holds a 4.01 ERA, a 6-1 record, and 47 strikeouts on the year. Senior Dalton Glenn is also having a great year, as he holds a 5-0 record and a 5.21 ERA. Another perfect week for the team will secure it of at least a share of the regular season conference title.
