Auburndale, Fla. (Mar. 6, 2023) - The Buena Vista University baseball team continued their spring break trip with a matchup against Concordia University Chicago on Monday morning. The Beavers continued their hot start to the season picking up a 15-3 win over the Cougars.

The two teams traded blows early with Concordia scoring first in the first inning on an RBI single before Evan Taylor tied the game up in the third with an RBI single of his own. The matchup remained tight heading into the fifth inning before Calvin Harris reached on an error to give the Beavers their first lead of the game. The defensive miscue opened up the flood gates for the Beavers lineup as Drew Taylor walked to bring in a run and Grant Oseka roped a two-run single into left to extend the lead to 5-1. The runs would prove to be all the Beavers needed, but they would add on more late with the lineup exploding for another ten runs in the final four frames. The only other offense Concordia could muster was a two-run single in the eighth.

Dalton Glenn received the start on the mound for BVU. The Omaha, Neb., native held Concordia hitters at bay with allowing one run on six hits and two walks while striking out seven over 6.2 strong innings before giving way to Zack Beekman in the seventh. Beekman allowed two runs on three hits over 1.1 innings. Spencer Holmes wrapped things up in the ninth pitching a scoreless inning despite walking three hitters.

The Beavers lineup displayed its depth. They were led by their leadoff hitter Jordan Mathewson and their eighth hitter Logan Mueller. Mathewson drove in three runs on three hits while scoring twice. Mueller drove in two runs on three hits and a walk while scoring three times. Oseka and Evan Taylor also had standout performances of their own, each driving in two runs on two hits. Drew Taylor continued his scorching start to the season by recording a double and RBI walk. The performance marked the seventh time in eight games that he has reached safely with a hit, and the fifth time that he has reached safely on an extra base hit.

NEXT UP: The Beavers (7-1) will resume action on Tuesday, March 7th with a matchup against St. John Fisher University. First pitch is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. (ET).
