PREVIEW: Baseball to Play Five Games this Week

Storm Lake, Iowa (March 27, 2023) The Buena Vista Baseball team will be on the road a couple more times this week as they travel to Nebraska Wesleyan on Tuesday for a doubleheader, and then to Loras this weekend for a three-game series.

Friday, March 31 | Buena Vista (11-4, 2-0) at Loras (11-6, 2-1) 6:00 pm

About Nebraska Wesleyan 
The Prairie Wolves opened conference play last weekend at Luther College where they dropped three games to the Norse. This Tuesday they look to get back on track as they host the Beavers for a doubleheader for their home conference opener. Offensively, the team is hitting .295 with 168 hits in 570 at-bats. Senior catcher John Haimowitz is hitting an impressive .383 on the year with 23 hits in 60 at-bats. Senior outfielder Alex Angele is also delivering on the offensive side, as he is slashing .324 with 11 hits in 34 at-bats. The pitching staff carries a 7.25 ERA on the year. They are led by sophomore Tyson Romero who boasts a 4-0 record with a 1.72 ERA. Romero has taken up a majority of the innings thus far for the Prairie Wolves. Sophomore Alejandro Espinoza has also pitched significant innings for the team (23.1) with an ERA of 6.94.

About Loras College  
Loras 2-of-3 from Wartburg last weekend in their conference opening series, and they return home this weekend to take on the Beavers. Offensively as a team, they are hitting .293 with 157 hits in 536 at-bats. Leading the offensive attack is junior Daniel Rogers who is batting .350 on the year with three home runs and 17 RBI's. Another bright spot for the offense is sophomore Max McCallum, who is batting .328 with 22 hits with four of them being doubles. On the other side of the field, the pitching staff holds a 5.32 ERA. The staff is led by freshman, TJ Boyd who has pitched 20 innings this year and holds a 2.66 ERA. Senior Davis Pasco has also contributed multiple solid outings for the Duhawks as he holds a 3-0 record with a 4.76 ERA.

About the Beavers 
The Beavers ended up playing just two games at Dubuque as weather prevented the team from being able to play a third game. The team took care of business as they took the wins in both games they played on Friday afternoon. Now the Beavers have a busy week ahead of them as they travel to Nebraska Wesleyan and Loras. Offensively as a team, the Beavers are hitting .326 with 181 hits thus far. Leading the offensive attack is senior Jordan Mathewson who is batting .418 on the year with 28 hits. Fifth-year Logan Mueller continues to get it done on offense as well, hitting a respectable .404 with 23 hits. The pitching staff holds a 5.39 ERA and is led by sophomore Morgan Smith who holds a 3-1 record and a 4.11 ERA. Dalton Glenn has also been a consistent arm for the Beavers as he has pitched 28.2 innings and holds a 3-0 record. The team looks to continue its recent success with five games this week.

Up Next: After this week's games on the road, the Beavers will return home for their home opener on Tuesday April 4th, as they take on Central College in a midweek matchup.
