Storm Lake, Iowa (March 22, 2023) The Buena Vista baseball team will hit the road for its conference opener as the team travels across the state to take on the University of Dubuque in a three-game weekend series.

About Dubuque  

The Spartans have had a great start to the season as they boast a 10-1 record, and their only loss thus far came on the last day of their Florida trip to Concordia University Chicago. The Spartans will open up conference play by hosting the Beavers. Offensively as a team, they are slashing an impressive .356 with 110 hits in 309 at bats. The team has four players who are currently batting over .400 with freshman Colin Husko and sophomore Hunter Hicks both hitting an impressive .438. Senior Cole DeStefanis and junior Kyle Radi are batting .405 and .400, respectively. All four of these players have multiple extra-base hits on the year. Defensively as a team, the Spartan have a .946 fielding percentage with 16 errors on the year. Their pitching staff is led by junior Aiden Sullivan who thus far has pitched 17.2 innings, with a sub-1.00 ERA, while boasting a 2-0 record. Graduate Student Edward Rosas has pitched 13 innings for the Spartans this year and has a 2-1 record with a 1.38 ERA.

About Buena Vista  

The Beavers' last game was on their spring break trip to Florida as they had their triangular cancelled last weekend in Illinois due to inclement weather. The Beavers are well rested going into the conference opening series at Dubuque. Offensively as a team, BVU is hitting a respectable .321 with 153 hits, 27 doubles and 11 homeruns. Leading the offensive attack is senior Jordan Mathewson who has had a great start to the year batting .464 with 26 hits in 54 at bats. Sophomore Drew Taylor is also hitting an impressive .434 with 23 hits and 18 runs batted in. Fifth year Logan Mueller and senior Calvin Harris have also been key pieces to the offense, hitting .396 and .340 respectively. Defensively, the team has a fielding percentage of .969 with just 14 errors on the year. Leading the pitching staff thus far is sophomore Morgan Smith, who has pitched a little over 23 innings while striking out 27 overall. Senior Dalton Glenn boasts a 3-0 record with 23 innings pitched and 15 strikeouts. The Beavers are looking to start conference play on a positive note this weekend in Dubuque.
