The Beavers came out and shot over 43 percent and made eight field goals in the opening quarter but the Eagles held a slim 22-19 lead after the first. BVU managed just eight second quarter points and only three field goals while the Eagles pushed the cushion up to 12 at the break.
BVU bounced back to begin the second half, getting within four points right out of the gate. The Eagles used a run to build a 14-point advantage before the Beavers closed the period strong, cutting the gap to within seven heading to the fourth. BVU shot just under 40 percent from the field and made 8-of-10 at the free-throw line.
Northwestern (6-1) quickly went back up by double figures less than two minutes into the fourth, and the Eagles were able to maintain that margin the rest of the way. Their led reached 19 inside of two minutes, leading to the 16-point final margin. Northwestern defeated BVU by 23 (82-59) earlier this season in the Beavers season-opener played in Storm Lake.
Buena Vista is now 1-5 on the year and hosts Luther College on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. inside of Siebens Fieldhouse.
