North Central Tops Women's Basketball 80-58

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Dec. 16, 2023) - Sophomore Danika Demers led all scorers with 18 points with Abby Nagel adding 11, but it was North Central University (Minn.) handing the Buena Vista women's basketball team an 80-58 non-conference road loss on Saturday afternoon.

Demers was 6-of-15 shooting from the field and led the way with three made three-point buckets. She also added a pair of assists and three steals. Nagel was 4-of-12 from the field, made all three free-throw attempts, and hauled in a team-leading six rebounds. Junior McKenna Cone was 4-of-4 at the charity stripe and chipped in with eight points. Sophomore Jenna Hallock tied Nagel with six boards.

The Beavers shot over 41 percent from the field and made seven field goal attempts in the first quarter, but couldn't overcome a sizzling start by the Rams who made 5-of-7 from long range in the quarter and shot over 53 percent from the field overall en route to a 33-22 lead.

Neither team shot the ball well in the second, combining for only 10 made field goals and both shooting under 30 percent. Three of NCU's six made field goals were from downtown as they pushed the margin to 49-32 at the break. Scoring was again at a minimum in the third quarter with both sides scoring only 10 points each and shooting nearly 20 percent.

Neither team was able to go on much of a run in the fourth quarter, despite the Rams building their largest lead of 30, and each did a chunk of its scoring at the free-throw line by both making 7-of-8 attempts.

Brycelyn Brewster and Lydia Schroeder each scored 13 points to help lead NCU (6-5) as five players reached double figures overall.

Buena Vista has lost seven straight games and dips to 1-8 on the year. The Beavers will be off until traveling to St. Catherine's University on Dec. 30 for a non-conference tilt starting at 3 p.m.
