STORM LAKE, Iowa - The Buena Vista University Valorant squad moves on to the NECC Navigators Midwest Fall Championship with a thrilling 2-1 (14-16, 13-9, 14-12) victory over Southern Illinois University Carbondale. The Beavers move to 8-0 on the season and are 16-1 in maps played this season. The Beavers will take on Milwaukee School of Engineering Swords or the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay on Monday, December 4th in the championship.
The Beavers got all they could handle from Salukis but battled to get the victory. They lost their first map of the season in a highly contested round. The two teams played Bind first with each team going on big runs which ultimately forced an overtime. The Salukis came out on fire taking a commanding 9-3 lead early on. The Beavers came back strong winning nine of the next 12 rounds tying the score at 12. The teams traded rounds until SIUC ended the map winning 16-14.
Libby Franken led the way with 26 kills while
Harlie Ferguson and William Roland each had 24. Ferguson had an average combat score of 246 leading BVU.
The second map played would be Haven. The Beavers opened up a 8-5 lead before closing the match winning five of the final nine round claiming the 13-9 victory evening the match at 1-1.
The final map played was Sunset. The Beavers got down early 4-2 before winning three rounds in a row claiming a 5-4 lead. The Beavers continued to play well opening up a 10-7 lead before USIC pushed back claiming the 12-11 lead. BVU buckled down winning the final three rounds winning 14-12. Ferguson again led the way with a combat score of 281 while
Cameron Germain had 25 kills and 272 combat score.
Jackson Trotman had 20 kills with 234 combat score.
It was an all around effort by the team. For the second fall in a row the Beavers will be in the Navigators Championship.
