STORM LAKE, Iowa (Oct. 21, 2023) - The Buena Vista men's soccer team got out to a 1-0 lead over the University of Dubuque on Saturday, but the Spartans would go on to score three unanswered goals to edge the Beavers on Senior Day inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium, 3-1.

Sota Usui broke a scoreless match when he was left open off a deflection from a throw-in and pounded it through passed a diving keeper with 15 minutes left in the first half for his first. The Spartans were able to put together a response before the half as they tied things up five minutes later.

Things remained all-square until Dubuque pushed in front during the 72nd minute before adding an insurance goal inside the final 10 minutes of play.

Dubuque held a 17-2 advantage in total shots throughout the first half before things evened out a bit more in the second half as the Beavers held the Spartans to only seven.

Sophomore Kendall Bickford had a pair of shots on-goal for Buena Vista with Charlie Adams adding one.

Brandon Kaup had a match-high seven total shots (four on-goal) to help lead the Spartans (7-7-2, 4-2-1 A-R-C).

Buena Vista drops to 1-13-3, 0-7 A-R-C) and will travel to Wartburg College on Tuesday, Oct. 24, for a 5 p.m. kickoff with the Knights.
