Box Score LINCOLN, Neb. (Oct. 18, 2023) - Sophomore
Kendall Bickford gave the Buena Vista men's soccer team a 1-0 lead late in the first half, and that's how things stood until late in the second period when Nebraska Wesleyan scored a pair of unanswered goals to send the Beavers to a heartbreaking 2-1 road loss on Wednesday night.
Bickford found the back of the net for an unassisted goal with 10 minutes left in the first half, giving him nine goals on the year and into a tie for fourth on the program's single-season list.
BVU, despite facing a 29-3Â deficit in total shots, played a tough defense throughout, and managed to hold the Prairie Wolves off the scoreboard until late. The Beavers were eyeing their first points during conference play since a 1-1 tie against Coe College in 2021, and were going after the program's first league victory since 2018.
Bickford registered all three of the Beavers shots in the match with
Zachary Sigler registering eight saves in his 70 minutes of play before turning things over to
Cody Fuller for the final 20.
Zachary McClanathan led NWU (8-3-4, 2-3-2)Â with five shots, including two on-goal. Alex Kohler, who knocked through the game-winner, finished with four shots, including three on-goal.
The loss drops Buena Vista to 1-12-3 on the year (0-6 A-R-C). The team returns to the field on Saturday, Oct. 21, to host the University of Dubuque in the home finale at 3:30 p.m.
