STORM LAKE, Iowa (Oct. 13, 2023) - The Buena Vista men's soccer team stepped out of conference play on Friday night, battled the cool, rainy, windy weather to host Dordt University, and it proved to be a thrilling match that came down to the final seconds and ended with junior Aidan O'Flaherty sending BVU to a 2-2 tie with a goal inside the final 10 seconds.

The Defenders got on the board first with just under 15 minutes left in the first half with a goal from Jacob Narkis to make it 1-0. The Beavers were able to respond just before the half when sophomore Kendall Bickford registered his team-leading seventh goal of the year to make it 1-1 at the break. The goal puts him into a tie for fifth on the program's all-time single-season list. 

Dordt went back in front early in the second half with a goal during the 51st minute and that's how things stood until the final seconds when O'Flaherty found the back of the net for his first career goal on an assist from Bryson Hamersky with seven seconds left.

Bickford turned in two shots (both on-goal) to help lead the Beavers while Kade Stover also added a shot on-goal. Cody Fuller got the start in-goal and played until he turned things over to Zachary Sigler for the final 16 minutes.

The Defenders held an 11-6 advantage in total shots and had four players finish with two shots apiece.

Buena Vista is now 1-10-3 on the year and will remain out of conference play when it travels to Grinnell College on Sunday, Oct. 15, for a 12 p.m. kickoff.
