STORM LAKE, Iowa (Sept. 24, 2022) - The Buena Vista men's soccer team played host to No. 24 Wartburg College on Saturday afternoon in the American Rivers Conference opener for both teams, and the Beavers brought the defensive pressure all game long, but the Knights squeaked in a goal off a corner kick with under four minutes to play in regulation to pick up a 1-0 victory.
The Beavers came out and didn't allow the Knights to get deep into the goal on many occasions throughout the contest and limited the number of quality shot attempts by the visitors. The Knights finished with 19 total shots, including 12 on-goal, but BVU goalkeeper
Isaiah Thomas was lights out, making 11 saves, and intercepting several passes that made their way near him.
Mitchell Dickson was credited with knocking in the game-winner for Wartburg off a corner kick from Payton Chapman at the 86:43 mark. It was Dickson's fourth shot-on-goal attempt of the afternoon.
Thomas went the distance in-goal for BVU, which falls to 0-6-2 overall (0-1 A-R-C. The win pushed Wartburg to 4-1-3 on the year (1-0 A-R-C).
Buena Vista is right back onto the field to complete their current six-game home stand on Monday evening when the Beavers host the University of Northwestern (Minn.) at 5:30 p.m.
