STORM LAKE, Iowa (Sept. 10, 2022) - The Buena Vista women's tennis team began both its home and American Rivers Conference schedule on Friday evening by hosting Simpson College out on the Buntrock Tennis Courts, but it was the Storm holding off BVU for a 6-3 victory.
Alexis McGinnis and Abigal King started off the match with a winning score of 8-1 in their No. 2 doubles. The final double matches concluded with
Gabby Kardell and
Madison McGaffin losing 8-2, along with Haley Meseck and
Jenny Almanza losing 8-5.
As singles began,
Alexis McGinnis unfortunately lost both of her sets a No. 1, 7-5, and 6-2.
Gabby Kardell was forced to withdraw during her match, and
Madison McGaffin also lost both of her sets 6-2. Haley Meseck followed in a loss with both sets 6-1. However,
Abigail King was able to bring in a win for the team with a 2-6, 7-5, and 1-0 thriller. Jenny Alamanza also had a win for the Beavers during her singles match with a score of 6-2 and 7-6.
"I think we competed well, but came short and we are ready to bounce back for our match on Tuesday!" said King after the match.
The women will compete again at home, starting at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13, against Morningside.
