STORM LAKE, Iowa (April 28, 2022) - The Buena Vista baseball returns home this weekend for a 3-game set with the University of Dubuque after taking 2-of-3 against Luther College last Saturday and Sunday to maintain its hold atop the American Rivers Conference standings.

ABOUT DUBUQUE

The Spartans enter Friday's contest sitting at 5th in the A-R-C after winning their series finale against Nebraska Wesleyan on Sunday. The Spartans have been a balanced team this season with both their hitting and pitching ranking towards the top of the A-R-C.

The Spartans will boast an offense that ranks second in A-R-C play with 140 runs scored. Kellen Mitchell has led the team hitting .340 with 7 doubles, 1 homerun, and 13 RBIs against conference opponents. On the mound, the Spartans will have a staff that ranks third in A-R-C play with 4.34 ERA. The staff has been led by Derek Hardin who has recorded a .82 ERA against conference opponents. That mark leads all A-R-C pitchers.

This series will mark the final conference series of the regular season for the team.

ABOUT BUENA VISTA

The Beavers enter Friday's doubleheader looking to continue their quest for the program's first regular season conference title since 2014. They lead the conference by two with only six games remaining. 

The Beavers will look for continued production from an offense that ranks first in A-R-C play with 158 runs scored. The lineup boasts a lot of depth from top to bottom. Evan Taylor has headlined the top of the lineup. The freshman hitter enters the finishing stretch in contention to lead to the A-R-C in batting. Against conference opponents, Taylor ranks 1st with a .451 average, .027 higher than the next hitter. Logan Mueller has been a standout performer at the bottom of the order. The senior third baseman enters the finishing stretch hitting .411 with 8 stolen bases in conference play. Those marks rank 4th and 3rd. The Beavers pitching staff enter the weekend ranked 7th in A-R-C play with a 5.22 ERA. The staff boasts a trio of pitchers ranked top-25 in conference ERA. Mason Gehling (2.49, 7th), Dalton Glenn (3.51, 16th), and Morgan Smith (3.55, 17th). Glenn enters with weekend tied for first with four wins against conference opponents.

ON DECK: On May 6th, the Beavers will travel to Cedar, Rapids Iowa for a three-game weekend series against Coe College. The series will mark the end of the regular season.
