Box Score DECORAH, Iowa (April 24, 2022) - The Buena Vista baseball team was going after a series sweep at Luther on Sunday afternoon but despite holding a lead midway through the contest, the Beavers came up short in the end as the Norse rallied for a 6-4 victory.
Joel Garcia put BVU in front in the first inning with an RBI groundout and that's how things stood until the fifth inning when
Evan Taylor made it 3-0 with a 2-run double to left center.
The Norse got on the board and rallied in the bottom of the fifth with a 2-run triple followed by an RBI groundout. They then extended the lead to 6-3 with two runs in the seventh and one more in the eighth.
Garcia came through with a 2-out RBI single in the ninth inning but was stranded there as the rally came up short.
Garcia and Taylor each finished with two hits and two RBI's in the contest with
Logan Mueller adding a hit and two runs scored.
Mark Eddie pitched the first five innings for BVU and picked up a no-decsion. He allowed three runs and four hits, walked four and struck out four.Â
Brayden Polzien came on in relief and suffered the loss. He was charged with two runs and four hits while walking three over 1.2 innings.
Buena Vista dips to 21-12 overall (13-5 A-R-C). The team's lead in the conference standings is two with only six games remaining. BVU will wrap up its home schedule next weekend by hosting the University of Dubuque for a three-game series starting with a DH on Friday night at 3:30pm. The two teams will close out that series with a single-game on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
