LINCOLN, Neb. (April 12, 2022) - The Buena Vista baseball team scored in five of the first six innings and pounded out seven extra-base hits to help the Beavers open up an early lead while notching their fourth straight win with a 12-6 victory at Nebraska Wesleyan on Tuesday afternoon.
Junior
Calvin Harris put BVU on the board in the opening frame with the first of his two doubles in the contest.Â
Caden Mathewson later followed with a two-run blast that put BVU in front 3-0. The Prairie Wolves followed with a pair of runs in their half of the inning to cut into the lead at 3-2.
Zack Beekmann extended the margin to 4-2 with a solo home run in the second - his third long ball of the year -Â before a five-run fourth made it a 9-2 contest.Â
Evan Taylor, along with Harris, tallied 2-run doubles in the frame to highlight the scoring.
BVU led 12-2 heading to the bottom of the sixth and that would prove to be more than enough. Junior
Mason Gehling got the start and scattered 10 hits over 5.2 innings. He allowed just three runs but struck out 13 batters while walking none.
Harris finished 3-for-5 with three RBI's while
Logan Mueller also tallied three hits and one RBI. Beckmann finished 2-for-4 with the home run and double and matched the team-high with three RBI.Â
Evan Taylor doubled twice and scored a team-leading three times.
Evan Kling was 5-for-5 with three doubles and thre RBI to help lead the Prairie Wolves, who drop to 11-14 on the year (4-6 A-R-C).
Buena Vista improves to 16-8 overall (8-2 A-R-C) and now gets set for a key three-game weekend home series against Wartburg College (18-11, 8-4 A-R-C). The Knights are second in the A-R-C standings behind the Beavers and will come in following a 6-2 home loss against Luther on Monday.
Friday's nine-inning contest is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. with Saturday's DH slated for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
