DUBUQUE, Iowa (February 26, 2022) – The Buena Vista University women's track and field team claimed four all-conference accolades and capped off a fifth place overall team finish to wrap up the 2022 American Rivers Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by the University of Dubuque.
Senior
Becca Simpson had a big weekend by claiming two of those all-conference spots, including a conference championship in the shot put on Friday night. She turned in the winning throw on her final attempt to set the school record yet again at 45-6.25 (13.87). On Saturday, she capped off her weekend by taking third in the weight throw with a toss of 17.33m (56-10.25). She is in position to qualify to the NCAA DIII Indoor Championship. The official announcement will come out for those selections on Tuesday, March 1.
Sophomore
Skylar Cole came up big for the team as she tied for third in the high jump by clearing the bar with a new personal best height of 1.61m (5-3.25).
Jessica Sump was the final all-conference performer by claiming runner-up accolades in Friday's long jump and posting a leap of 5.46m.
BVU got big points in the field events all weekend. Aside from Simpson, Anna Brennan came through with a big toss of 13.25 meters in the shot put to take fourth.
Anna Friedrichsen was seventh in the weight throw on Saturday with a personal best heave of 15.58m.
Wren Klump got the scoring started for BVU on Friday morning by taking sixth overall in the pentathlon with 2,530 points.
Jessica Sump qualified sixth into Saturday's finals of the 60m hurdles and would cross the finish line in fourth overall at 9.37s.
Jadyn Forbes and
Latrice Hodges each scored points in the mid-distance races with Forbes taking seventh in the 800m run and Hodges holding onto eighth in the mile run with a personal best clocking of 5:26.72.
The fifth place finish by BVU was the program's highest mark since also taking fifth in 2013.
