PELLA, Iowa (February 16, 2022) - Freshman
Mallory McCall scored a game and career high 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds but it wasn't enough on Wednesday night as the Buena Vista women's basketball team ended the regular season with a tough 68-55 road loss at Central Collge.
It was all Dutch from the start as they led 16-9 after the first quarter and scored the first 10 points of the second and doubled the lead at halftime, 32-18. The Dutch pushed the lead to 20 midway through the third quarter before BVU was able to claw back to within 15 heading to the fourth. The Beavers were able to get back as close as eight within the first two minutes of the stanza following a layup by McCall, but a 10-3 run over the next five minutes that all but secured the win.
McCall finished the game shooting 8-of-19 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. It was her sixth double-double of the year and the third in the last four games to close out the year. Fellow freshman
Taylor Krager added nine points with five coming at the free-throw line, to go along with six rebounds and a team-leading four assists.
As a team, the Beavers were held to 26.2 percent shooting from the field and only 2-of-26 from the three-point line. BVU was able to keep within striking distance by going 19-of-25 from the charity stripe.
Kassadi Steel turned in 21 points to lead the Dutch (6-13, 4-9 A-R-C) who were able to overcome a 21-point loss to the Beavers back on January 31.
Buena Vista closes out the regular season at 7-15 overall (5-11 A-R-C).
