Danika Demers finished with 18 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists, and 2 steals while Lindsey Anhlat added 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 steals to help led the Buena Vista women's basketball team to a comeback win over North Central on Wednesday night in their home opener.Â
The Rams got off to a hot start going on a 17-3 run to begin the opening quarter. Midway through the quarter, the Beavers began to find their grove responding with a 13-4 run of their own, despite still trailing 28-20 at the conclusion of the quarter. They continued to chip away with a 15-13 second quarter as they headed into the half trailing 41-35.Â
BVU would not see its first lead of the game until 3:34 left in the third quarter when a pair of Emily Newton free throws gave them a 48-47 lead. The game would remain close into the final minutes. The Rams converted a late free throw with just over 30 seconds left to take a 68-67 lead. It would set up a clutch go ahead layup from Senior Vanessa Hamlett to secure the victory for the Beavers. Hamlett also finished in double-digits, scoring 10 points to go along with six boards.
Mia Mabang led all scorers for the Rams (1-2) with a game-high 21 points.
Buena Vista shot 42.2 percent from the field overall and performed well at the charity stripe, going 11-of-14.
UP NEXT:The Beavers improve to 2-2 overall. They return to action at home next Tuesday, Nov. 22, for a 5:30 p.m. matchup against Crown College.
