STORM LAKE, Iowa (October 25, 2022) - The Buena Vista cross country teams have been prepping all season for this Saturday, October 29, when the teams will travel to Indianola, Iowa to compete in the American Rivers Conference Cross Country Championships.Â
The women's squad looks to build off a seventh place finish at last year's meet. It is currently in one of its best three-year runs at the championships over the last 30 years. They return its top finisher from that meet, Latrice Hodges. Hodges finished 14th with a time of 23:53.7. This year's squad will rely on its youth with four freshmen having scored for the Beavers last meet at the Platte River Rumble. Those freshmen include Zoie Callan, Karley Ruiz-Genovese, Kiera Altwine, and Lauren McCoy.Â
The men's squad looks to build off an 8th place finish in last year's meet. It has not finished higher than eighth since 2014 or better than seventh since it placed fifth in 2006. The men's squad will return three members of its scoring five from that meet: Kyle Miller, Kaden Sadler, and Jon Flaws. Miller finished 35th with a time of 26:55:20, Sadler finished 45th with a time of 27:57.60. Flaws finished 47th with a time of 28:01.5. The squad will have momentum on their side heading into the meet. Previously at the Platte River Rumble, Miller broke his own 8k cross country school record with a time of 25:05. Sadler also topped the previous record running a 25:24. The team had a top-3 overall finish at the Briar Cliff Invite back on Oct. 1.
Saturday's 6k women's race kicks things off at 11:00 a.m. with the men's 8k set to begin at noon.
