ST. PAUL, Minn. (Sept. 3, 2021) - The Buena Vista University volleyball team rolled to an opening day win at the Macalester College Invitational by sweeping past Concordia (Minn.) 3-0.
Senior
Sydney McLaren led the charge with a match-high 15 kills and was the only player by either team to post double-digits. She had just three errors and finished with a strong .389 hitting percentage while also getting the job done on the defensive side by chalking up nine digs and one block assist.
Courtney Johnson came up big with a career-high nine kills and no errors while
Hannah Smith and
Rachel Brockney each added seven kills. As a team, the Beavers were lighting it up at the net with 46 total kills and a .301 attack percentage.Â
Taylor Wedemeyer dished out 36 assists and added 11 digs for her first double-double of the season.Â
Jade Hays also turned in 11 digs.
"Tonight was a great team road win," said BVU head coach
Rosie Aumann. "Everyone stepped up and played a part in this win. We're looking forward to going right back out and competing again tomorrow!"
Buena Vista is set to play a pair of games on Saturday - facing Crown College at 12:00 p.m. and Macalester at 4:00 p.m.
