MORRIS, Minn. (September 18, 2021) - The Buena Vista University volleyball team wrapped up its latest trip up north to the state of Minnesota but came up on the short end of a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-1 to the host Cougars before suffering a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Concordia-Moorhead.
BVU came out and captured a narrow 25-23 victory in the opening set versus Minnesota-Morris before the Cougars came back and took a thrilling 26-24 set two. The host school then came out with a pair of 25-18 victories in the final two sets for the win.
Senior
Sydney McLaren and sophomore
Rachel Brockney were in double figures offensively with 12 and 10 kills, respectively.Â
Kaitie Serkiz just missed out with nine kills. McLaren nothced another double-double by recording a team-high 21 digs while
Jade Hays followed right behind with 21.
McLaren added to her stellar day with 20 kills and a season-high 29 digs in the five-set thriller against the Cobbers.Â
Courtney Johnson turned in a career-high 12 kills while
Elizabeth Elkins did the same with her 10.Â
Molly Bense had a strong match as well with 16 digs and a pair of ace serves. Hays also chipped in with 16 digs and four assists.Â
Taylor Wedemeyer dished out a match-high 51 assists after tallying 45 against the Cougars.
Buena Vista (6-5) will look to end its two-match losing skid when it returns to American Rivers Conference action on Wednesday, September 22, with a road match at Central College starting at 7:30 p.m.
