STORM LAKE, Iowa (May 12, 2021) - The Buena Vista University women's outdoor track & field team has been building for this weekend since the early spring and now the team is looking to go into the 2021 American Rivers Conference Outdoor Championships and make some noise.  No championship was held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

BVU has a handful of individuals or events currently ranked in the top-10 of the A-R-C rankings this season.  The top-8 finishers will score team points throughout the championship while the top-3 place winners earn all-conference status.

Junior Tabitha Guyett brings in the sixth-best mark in the 200-meter dash (25.29) and ranks third in the 400-meter dash (1:05.54).  She also holds the fifth-best distance in the long jump at 17' 5".  Senior Emily Hoesing is fifth in the 10,000-meter run and 11th in the 5,000-meter.  Freshman Jessica Sump will take the track currently ranked sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.19) and is just behind Guyett in seventh in the long jump (17' 4").  Sophomore Qiana Roderick is fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:56.74).

The Beavers look for strong performances as well in the relays.  Their 4x100 team enters ranked fifth with the 4x400 sitting seventh.

BVU looks to chalk up several points in the field events with a number of individuals sitting in the top-10.  Junior Becca Simpson helps lead the charge by sitting in the top-5 in the shot put (5th; 13.16m), hammer throw (2nd; 51.40m) and javelin (1st; 45.06m).  Madison Trimpe is ninth in the discus (39.85m) while freshman Skylar Cole is eighth in the high jump at 5' 0.5".  Wren Klump sits sixth in the heptathlon (3,335pts).

The Beavers totaled 20 points during the 2019 Outdoor Championships and finished seventh overall.  This year's indoor team chalked up 36 points and placed seventh.

The outdoor championships will officially get underway with the women's heptathlon on Thursday, May 13, at 1:30 p.m.
