CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (April 3, 2021) - The Buena Vista University softball team got a pair of home runs and a complete-game effort on the mound by
Peyton Gross as the Beavers were able to capture a 5-2 win at Coe College in the series finale between the two teams on Saturday afternoon.
Senior
Carlee Guyett led off the game with a home run and later singled home a big insurance run in the seventh inning. Junior
Ashtyn Miller also belted her second home run of the year in the fourth to extend the Beaver lead to 3-1. Coe got within 3-2 with a home run of its own in the sixth before BVU came back a two-run seventh inning en route to the three-run victory.
Guyett finished 2-for-4 with the two RBI and one run scored. Miller also tacked on two hits with
Nataliah Murillo chiming in with an RBI double in the seventh.
Gross went the distance while scattering six hits and allowing just one earned run. She was able to overcome seven walks and struck out two while improving her season record to 4-4.
Buena Vista is now 13-9 on the year (4-5 A-R-C) and is scheduled to play at Luther College next Saturday (April 9) and Sunday (April 10).
