CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (March 9, 2021) - The Buena Vista women's basketball team held an early double-digit lead over Coe in the first quarter of Tuesday night's American Rivers Conference quarterfinal match-up, but the Kohawks used a big 11-0 spurt to reclaim the lead for good, as they defeated the Beavers 73-52, inside of Kohawk Arena.
Sophomore
Olivia Larsen led all scorers with 24 points and added nine rebounds to help lead the charge for the Beavers while freshman
Megan Morenz followed with 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting.Â
Christina Schauer registered six points and six boards in what would be her final career game wjhile senior
Cassy Miller dished out four assists in what was the final time she would put on the Beaver jersey.
The Beavers came out strong and built an early 13-3 lead midway through the first quarter before Coe roared back with 11 straight points to take the lead before ending the opening stanza with a 17-14 advantage. Coe then outscored BVU 26-16 in the second quarter to extend the margin to 43-30 at the break.
BVU, which went just 3-of-20 from long range, was unable to put together enough of a charge in the second half as Coe maintained a 20-point lead for most of it. The Beavers connected on 33.9 percent of their attempts overall and converted only 9-of-18 from the free-throw line.
Molly Buck led Coe (8-3) with 19 points with Jackie Feldt right behind at 18. The Kohawks will now advance to Thursday night's semifinal round and host No. 6 Loras.
Buena Vista closes its campaign at 2-7 overall.
