STORM LAKE, Iowa (February 6, 2021) - Buena Vista senior Emily Hoesing took the title in the 3,000-meter run while sophomore Becca Simpson landed the top spot in both the shot put and weight throw on Saturday to help lead the BVU women's track and field team as it began its indoor season by hosting a triangular against both Luther College and Nebraska Wesleyan University.

Hoesing posted a time of 10:52.09 seconds and won the race by 14 seconds.  It's the second-fast mark in program history behind only her top mark set last season of 10:33.06.  Simpson, meanwhile, highlighted the group of field events by claiming both titles.  She captured the shot put by two feet with her career-best heave of 40' 02" which came on her third attempt.  The mark is also the third-longest in school history.  She was victorious by six inches in the weight throw with a heave of 51' 2 3/4".  That distance is the third-longest in history.  The Beavers took the top-four spots in the event.

Senior Kylie Johnston had a strong day in the sprints by matching her career-best time of 8.00 seconds in the 60-meter dash preliminaries before placing second overall at 8.01 in the finals.  She was also third in the 200 at 27.41.  Jade Hays was just .01 seconds back and took fourth.

Freshman Skylar Cole took second in the high jump with a height of 4' 9" which sits 10th in program history.

Buena Vista tallied 76 total points and was just 11 points behind Luther.  Nebraska Wesleyan won the team race with 106 points.  The Beavers will continue to build off the performances as they remain on their home turf next Saturday by hosting a triangular with Simpson and Wartburg beginning at 11:00 a.m.
