PELLA, Iowa (February 27, 2021) - For the second straight week,
Becca Simpson set the school's weight throw record, while senior
Emily Hoesing set a new mark in the mile, as the two highlighted the day for the Buena Vista women's indoor track & field team that went up against a pair of nationally-ranked teams on Saturday afternoon.
Simpson posted a mark of 16.36m to surpass her previous record set last week of 16.25 and won the event by 0.33 meters. She moves up to fourth in the A-R-C rankings this season. It's the third time overall that she has broken the record. She also came in third in the shot put with a mark of 12.21 meters.
Madison Trimpe was right behind in fourth with a season-best distance of 12.07 meters.
Senior
Emily Hoesing finished third overall in the mile with a record-breaking time of 5:24.03 which surpassed the previous mark of 5:27.03 set last winter by Jayden Forbes. Forbes went on to finish third in the 800-meter run with her season-best time of 2:26.16.
BVU took three of the top-five spots in the long jump, led by
Tabitha Guyett's third-place finish at 4.85 meters. Guyett was also runner-up in the 400-meter dash with her best time of the year (1:01.62) that was less than one-half of a second off the winning time.
The 4x400 relay that closed out the day was a thriller as the top-three teams were all within three seconds of each other. BVU held off Loras for second in a time of 4:17.28.
Buena Vista tallied 72 points overall and finished third, but only eight points behind the Dutch. The team now looks ahead to the A-R-C Championships which will be held at Wartburg on Saturday, March 6.
