MONMOUTH, Ill. (November 13, 2021) - Sophomores Hannah Whitver and Vanessa Hamlett scored 11 and 10 points respectively, but it was Monmouth using a 13-4 run over the final 6:30 to hand the Beavers a 73-56 road loss on Saturday afternoon.

The Scots led 20-15 after the first quarter and pushed the margin to 37-28 at the half.  BVU, which trailed by 17 heading to the fourth was able to cut the deficit down to single digits at 60-52 with 6:36 remaining before Monmouth rolled off nine straight points over the next three minutes to pull away.

BVU was just 3-of-22 from long distance while Monmouth was 8-of-20.  The Beavers attempted 12 more free-throws than the Scots but finished just 9-of-20 from the stripe.

"Playing back-to-back games are always tough," says BVU head coach David Wells.  "The ladies showed alot of fight and had a chance to cut it down to a two possession game late but couldn't quite get over the top.  At the end of the day, Monmouth knocked down its shots and we didn't.  We showed alot of grit and growth in a short time time of playing together, and I'm proud of them and look forward to getting better."

Whitver was 4-of-6 from the field and made one of the team's long range buckets.  Hamlett was 5-of-8 shooting and added four rebounds.  Lindsay Anhalt chipped in with career-highs in both points (8) and rebounds (7).

Kaitlyn Osmulski turned in a game-high 20 points to lead Monmouth which was a national tournament qualifier two seasons ago.

Buena Vista is now 1-1 on the year and will head up north to Martin Luther College next Saturday for a 5:00 p.m. tip-off with the Knights.
