Softball Closes out Day with Win over UW-Oshkosh

ROSEMONT, Ill. (March 7, 2020) - The Buena Vista softball team wrapped up its first day inside the Dome here on Friday night by picking up a 3-2 victory over UW-Oshkosh after having dropping a tough 2-1 contest directly before that to Calvin College.

In the win over the Titans, BVU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after scoring twice in the third inning.  Carrie Dose singled home the first run of the inning before later scoring on a wild pitch that ultimately proved to be the difference in the contest.

UW-Oshkosh rallied late by scoring runs in both the fourth and fifth innings and having the tying run on base in the seventh.  BVU starter Peyton Gross worked out of each of those jams en route to her first complete game of the season.  She scattered eight hits and worked around six walks by striking out five.

Seven different players had one hit for the Beavers, including a double by Michaela Mason for the team's only extra-base hit.

Natalie Dillon went 3-for-4 at the dish to lead the Titans, who dropped their first game of the year to move to 3-1.

The night began with a tough one-run loss to Calvin, a team that also defeated BVU twice in a doubleheader last Saturday.  This game was much tighter than the first two match-ups.  Calvin plated both of its runs in the third inning getting an RBI triple for the first score before an unearned run made it 2-0.  BVU scored an unearned run of its own in the fifth to cut the deficit to one run, but were held to only two hits in the game.

Alyssa Barnhart and Savanna Pohlmann had those two hits for the Beavers at the bottom of the line-up with each also stealing one base.  Carrie Dose was strong on the mound, pitching her own complete-game, allowing just the one earned run and scattering six hits while striking out one.

Buena Vista is now 4-4 overall and will look to move above the .500 mark when it faces Lake Forest (5 p.m.) and  UW-Stout (9 p.m.) inside the Dome on Saturday night.
