Destiny Einerwold scored a team-high 13 points in her final career game with
Erin Gerke and
Jennifer Schneider close behind at 12 and 11, respectively,, but the Buena Vista women's basketball team had its season come to an end on Saturday afternoon with a 76-56 road loss at Simpson College.
BVU led 9-2 in the early going before Simpson answered with a 13-2 surge which led to a 17-13 lead after the first. The Storm then broke the game open by using a 9-0 surge over the first five minutes of the second. They outscored BVU 28-10 in the period to build a 45-23 lead at the break.
Simpson led by as many as 24 in the second half, but the Beavers were never able to get any closer than 16.
Einerwold finished 5-of-15 from the field and nailed a pair of free-throws for the game's final points in the closing seconds of her career. She also hauled in seven rebounds. Gerke made four field goals and was 4-of-5 at the free-throw line. Schneider flirted with a triple-double, adding nine rebounds and a career-best six assists to her 11 points. Freshman
Emerson Else finished 3-of-4 from behind the arc to post a career-high nine points.
BVU was 5-of-15 from downtown in the contest and 19-of-51 from the field overall. It did make it to the free-throw line 20 times while Simpson was held to just 5-of-9.
The Simpson defense forced 20 Beaver turnovers which led to 24 fast break points. The Storm (18-7, 10-6 A-R-C) had just nine miscues in the contest and held a slight 39-35 edge on the glass.
Buena Vista finishes the year at 1-24 overall (0-16 A-R-C). The game also marked the final contest in the career for both Einerwold and
Kiara Sporrer.
