Nicole Lange scored a career-high 24 points,
Erin Gerke followed with 17, but the Buena Vista women's basketball team couldn't hold an early double-digit lead as the University of Dubuque rallied back for a 76-63 victory on Saturday afternoon.
Lange finished 9-of-16 from the field which included a pair of three-point buckets while also grabbing seven rebounds and recording three blocks. Gerke made three treys and was 7-of-13 from the field overall.Â
Jennifer Schneider and
Destiny Einerwold each chipped in with nine points as Einerwold has her string of 14 straight double-digit scoring games come to an end. Â
The Beavers raced out to a 15-2 lead only to see the Spartans roll of eight straight points to end the first quarter to get within 15-10 before pulling even 29-29 at the half. BVU was outscored 28-16 in the third quarter as Dubuque made 12-of-17 from the floor. BVU was able to get back within seven in the final stanza, but no closer.
BVU made just 1-of-12 shots from long range in the second half after going 4-of-9 over the first 20 minutes.
Tabria Thomas led four Spartans in double figures with 16 points, as they pick up their first conference victory.
Buena Vista (1-14, 0-6 A-R-C) will be back in action on January 15 when it hosts Simpson College at 5:30 p.m.
