STORM LAKE - Following a pair of narrow losses last weekend up in the Twin Cities, the Buena Vista men's soccer team was looking to come back to J. Leslie Rollins Stadium on Saturday evening and pick up a win on Homecoming, and the Beavers did just that with a 2-0 triumph over Crown College.
It was a scoreless match through the first half of play before
Jose Martinez found the back of the net for the second time this season and moves into a tie for the team lead with six points. His goal broke the tie with only a few minutes gone by in the half.Â
Noah Becker then added a big insurance goal during the 72' off a deflection that gave the Beavers a 2-0 lead.
The Storm held a slim 12-11 edge in total shots with eight of BVU's coming in the second half.
Manuel Aguilar was tough again in-goal for the Beavers, chalking up five more saves en route to the shutout.
The win gives head coach
Ross Minick his first career victory as the team improves to 1-3-3 overall this season. It will play a non-conference match at Bethany Lutheran on Wednesday evening before turning around to host the University of Dubuque to begin American Rivers Conference play next Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
