Box Score STORM LAKE - It was a defensive battle from start to finish on Monday afternoon as the Buena Vista men' soccer team hosted Augustana College (Ill.) in a non-conference contest inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium.

The Vikings held an 11-1 shot advantage in the first half, but the defense of the Beavers kept Augustana off of the board.  Senior goalkeeper Manuel Aguilar saved seven of his 12 total shots in the opening period.

The two teams were a bit more even on the offensive end in the second half with BVU holding a slim 10-9 edge in shots.  Junior Eugenio Rosiles broke the scoreless game with his first goal of the year with just under 31 minutes left in regulation.  The Beavers had a couple opportunities to extend that cushion but narrowly missed on a pair of mid-range shot attempts.

The Vikings (0-1-1) nodded things at 1-1 with 11 minutes remaining on an own goal that was deflected in just in front of the net.  BVU again had a chance to break the tie but had a shot hit off the left post.

Both defenses held strong in both extra periods with Augustana not recording a single shot while BVU being held to only three.

Four players registered a pair of shots for the Beavers, including Rosiles and Nik Brimeyer, who each had two shots on-goal.  It was also a physical contest with 43 combined fouls being whistled for.

"I'm proud of the guys in how they responded after a rough first half," says BVU head coach Ross Minick. "We battled to the final whistle! We are very close to breaking through and i know the guys aren't satisfied at 0-0-2."

Buena Vista is now 0-0-2 on the year and will look to remain unbeaten when it hits the road for the first time this season with a non-conference match at Dordt College on Wednesday, September 4, at 4 p.m.
