Volleyball Tripped up Twice on Saturday

WHEATON, Ill. - It was a tough day on the court for the Buena Vista volleyball team as it was dealt a pair of three-set losses to close out the Marilyn Scribner Invitational on Saturday, hosted by Wheaton College.  BVU fell to Dominican University in the opener before suffering a second 3-0 loss to Lake Forest College.

Dominican took control early in the opener with a 25-9 win in the first set before taking the final two, 25-18 and 25-21.  The Beavers dropped two tough sets against the Foresters , 25-22 and 26-24 before Lake Forest ended the contest with a 25-16 win the third.

Kaitie Serkiz had a team-high 13 kills against the Foresters and hit .310 overall.  Camryn McClintock added seven kills on 26 swings as BVU had 35 kills overall.  Taylor Wedemeyer dished out 24 assists with Summer Goss chipping in with 19 digs and six assists.

Against Dominican to begin the day, BVU was held in check offensively with only 24 kills and a .122 overall mark.

Serkiz again paced the way with seven kills and Wedemeyer had a double-double with 18 assists and 11 digs.

"Overall, an extremely disappointing tournament for us," said head coach Aubrey Havlichek.  "We continue to be our worst enemies, compounding errors and negating any good we do.  We won't give up, so it's back to the drawing board to see where we can improve for game time."

Buena Vista will now prepare itself for the American Rivers Conference schedule as it gets underway on Wednesday night, September 18, hosting Nebraska Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
