Volleyball Sweeps Martin Luther at Home

STORM LAKE - Freshman Camryn McClintock registered a career-high 12 kills and was the only Beaver to reach double figures as the team clawed back at the end of the third set to cap the sweep of visiting Martin Luther on Tuesday night.

McClintock got the start as BVU played without Sydney McLaren in the match, and she stepped right in and made the most of the opportunity.  She entered the match with only four kills in five matches played.  Taylor Caves, Hannah Smith and Taylor Wedemeyer each added six kills with Wedemeyer also dishing out 17 assists and recording eight digs.  Summer Goss chalked up a double-double with 10 assists and 17 digs.

BVU came out of the gate strong in the opening set with 11 kills and only two errors en route to a convincing 25-15 victory.  The Knights hung around in the final two sets and made the Beavers fight until the very end.  Martin Luther led 21-20 late in the third before the Beavers rallied in the end and picked up the 26-24 victory.

"We are happy to be walking away with a win in three sets," said head coach Aubrey Havlichek.  "Still many things to work on, but I was finally glad to be able to get a couple new looks on the court.  There's been alot of adjustment that has come with such few returners and now with injury, but we are getting freshmen acquainted with their roles and seeing what great things they are capable of.  Camryn was excellent in her first starting appearance and going six rotations for us tonight."

Buena Vista improves to 2-5 overall this season and will look to stay in the win column as it heads to the Wheaton College Tournament this Friday and Saturday.  It will open play on Friday night against Benedictine at 8 p.m. and then will play both Dominican and Lake Forest on Saturday at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
