Box Score STORM LAKE - The Buena Vista men's soccer team was less than one minute away from securing a season-opening victory over a solid Martin Luther team inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium on Friday night, the Knights fired through a late goal to force OT and both teams played to a 2-2 2OT contest.

Noah Bardwell took a long lead pass from freshman Jose Martinez in the first half to put the Beavers on the board first and giving them a 1-0 halftime lead.  That's how things stood until Martin Luther tied it up with 13 minutes remaining in regulation.  BVU wasted little time getting the advantage right back as Martinez, who had just re-entered the game, took a feed from Bardwell and made a few moves before punching home his first collegiate goal with 11 minutes to go.

BVU appeared to be in position to pick up the win before Martin Luther drilled home a back left corner shot from nearly 20 yards out with 51 seconds left.

The Beavers had multiple looks in the extra frame but narrowly missed on each one.

Bardwell finished with a team-leading eight shots, including six on-goal, while Nik Brimeyer added five.  As a team, the Beavers outshout the Knights, 12-3, in the second half alone and finshed with a 25-12 advantage overall.

BVU (0-0-1) will look to get into the win column when it takes the field on Monday, September 2, for a home match against Augustana College (Ill.).  Start time inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium is set for 4 p.m.
