ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Buena Vista volleyball traveled up north to begin its 2019 campaign on Friday but the Beavers dropped a pair of tough matches, falling 3-0 to St. Scholastica and 3-2 against Concordia-Moorhead.
Sophomore
Sydney McLaren totaled 43 kills on the day, including 30 against the Cobbers. She hit .231 against the Saints and was the only player in double-digit kills.Â
Summer Goss recorded a team-leading 13 digs with
Taylor Wedemeyer recording a double-double in her first career match, dishing out 18 assists and chalking up 10 digs.
The Saints edged BVU, 25-23, in the opening set before going on to pick up 25-15 and 25-20 triumphs to close out the match.
After falling behind 2-1 to the Cobbers, the Beavers nearly completed the comeback but came up just short in the decisive fifth set, 15-13. McLaren had just eight hitting errors in 68 total attempts for the match and posted a .319 hitting percentage. She recorded her first double-double of the year by adding 17 digs.
Wedemeyer added to her career day by dishing out 50 assists and finishing with 14 digs.
Buena Vista (0-2) will look to even its record on Saturday when it plays its final two matches. It will take on Bethel University at 10 a.m. before facing St. Olaf at 2 p.m.
