Beavers with a Sweep to begin Spring Trip

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

TUCSON, Ariz. - Sophomore Brook Linderman blasted a grand slam over the fence in left to put Buena Vista ahead for good against Case Western Reserve, and the Beavers hung on for a 7-5 victory to complete a sweep on its first day playing in the desert.

BVU trailed 3-0 going into the third inning against CWRU before putting up six runs in the frame, capped by Linderman's first career home run.  Mckynze Hansen got the scoring started with a triple down the third base line and scored one batter later on Carlee Guyett's RBI single up the middle.  Kayden Archibeque and Taylor Frain then singled to load the bases for Linderman who drove a 2-2 pitch well out of the park.

Michaela Mason added a big insurance run with an RBI single up the middle in the fourth to extend the lead to 7-3.  Case Western did get two runs back in the fifth with a one-out single up the middle that scored a pair, but freshman Peyton Gross worked out of the jam and keep BVU in front.

Gross, who picked up both wins on the day in relief, retired six of the final seven batters to complete the game.  She finished the contest allowing just two runs on four hits, striking out five and walking only one.

Arhibeque and Linderman each tallied two hits in the contest as the Beavers outhit CWRU, 9-8.  The Spartans had been ranked as high as seventh in the country earlier this season, and dip to 3-4 with the loss.

BVU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first against Dickinson College before the Red Devils scored a run in the first and third innings to tie things at 2-2.  Guyett led off the fifth inning with a single and scored on Archibeque's triple to left center.  Archibeuque then scored two batters later on Kate Lesmeister's sacrifice fly.

Gross, who pitched the final 4.2 innings of the contest, retired 14 of the 15 batters she faced, including six by strikeout, and is now 4-0 on the year.

Archibeque was 3-for-4 at the plate to help lead the way for the Beavers, who tallied eight hits overall.

Buena Vista extends its win streak to six straight and looks to add to it on Saturday when it will face Millikin and UW-La Crosse at 11:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. (CDT), respectively.
