STORM LAKE, Iowa (December 9, 2019) - The Buena Vista women's basketball team will get to begin its holiday break by flying out west to Walla Walla, Washington and playing a pair of games during the Kim Evanger Raney Classic on December 14 and 15.

The Blues dropped their first game of the year on Saturday at seventh-ranked Mary Hardin Baylor, 78-58. It was only the third time all season that the team had allowed over 70 points. The team has captured at least 20 wins in six of the past seven years, including three straight. It went 20-7 overall but snapped a string of two straight NCAA Tournament appearances. Makana Stone scored a team-high 22 points during the loss to Mary Hardin Baylor and also grabbed 10 rebounds. She's averaging 16.7ppg for the year which ranks third in the Northwest Conference. She holds the top spot in field goal percentage at 59.5 percent and is fifth in rebounding at 7.1rpg. As a team, the Blues are shooting 47.7 percent from the field and averaging 79.0ppg.
About Whitworth
The Pirates haven't played an official game since losing to Northwest Nazarene back on November 26, 90-61. It played the Whitworth Alumni on December 8 in an exhibition game. The team's last official victory came back on November 16 when it topped Concordia (Texas) 68-65. The team is averaging 66.0ppg and has a pair of individuals averaging double figures in scoring, led by Quincy McDeid at 12.2ppg. She's been the team's top outside shooter, making 15-of-28 attempts (53.6%) and also shooting 20-of-25 at the charity stripe. The Pirates are shooting nearly 39 percent from the field and nearly 37 percent from downtown. They are grabbing over 37 rebound per contest and are forcing 20.0 turnovers per contest, despite committing just over 22.0.
About Buena Vista
The Beavers are looking to put an end to a current five-game losing streak since defeating Nebraska Christian College, 65-64, in overtime back on November 19. The team has played all but one game away from its home court to begin the year. Through those nine games, the team is averaging just over 58.0ppg and shooting 33.9 percent from the field.
